Welcome to the Brains Blog’s Symposium on Experience, Phenomenology, and Quantum Mechanics.
Despite a long history of discussion in physics and the philosophy of physics, the relationship between experience, phenomenology, and quantum mechanics (QM) has often been hindered by traditional disciplinary boundaries. This theme has not been explored enough in the philosophy of mind. This symposium aims to bridge this gap and foster greater dialogue by drawing attention to the topic among philosophers of mind and cognitive science and philosophers of physics.
The symposium draws inspiration from the work of Philipp Berghofer, particularly his 2022 manuscript titled The Justificatory Force of Experiences: From a Phenomenological Epistemology to the Foundations of Mathematics and Physics (Synthese Library, Vol. 49). Following this introduction, a concise summary of Berghofer’s ideas lays the groundwork for engaging commentaries by Mahdi Khalili, Andrea Reichenberger, and Harald Wiltsche. The symposium concludes with Philipp’s response to these insightful perspectives. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their thoughtful and thorough contributions to this vital dialogue.
