Philosophy and Neuroscience at the Gulf IV
Fourth Annual Meeting of the Deep South Philosophy and Neuroscience Workgroup (Held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Alabama Philosophical Society)
Co-organized by John Bickle (Mississippi State University and University of Mississippi Medical Center) and Brian Keeley (Pitzer College)

Presentations on topics in any area of philosophy of/and neuroscience are welcome. Presentations exploring new topics and ideas are encouraged!
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the publication of Patricia Churchland’s Neurophilosophy (MIT Press, 1986), this year’s workshop will include an invited panel discussion on the history of philosophy of neuroscience. It will also include invited keynote neuroscience lectures by Prof. Michael Lehman (Director, Kent State U. Brain Health Research Institute) and Prof. Brad Walters (U. Mississippi Medical Center).
Abstracts (up to 750 words) for submitted presentations at this year’s workshop are due by July 1, 2021. Send your abstract as a Word doc or pdf attached to an email to John Bickle at jbickle@philrel.msstate.edu.
Note on current plans for workshop format: At present our plans are to hold as much of the workshop live in person as conditions permit. We realize that different geographical regions, and the universities within them, are re-opening and funding academic travel at different rates, and so plans for Fall 2021 must remain fluid. If we must, we will make provisions to hold some sessions remotely. But in person participation is encouraged. (Gulf beaches are much more fun in person than virtually!)
Participants will be responsible for their own travel costs and arrangements, and the Alabama Philosophical Society $60 registration fee. Funds from the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Mississippi State University will pay for workshop meeting space, lunches for in-person participants on two of the three meeting days, and coffee and refreshment breaks. Registration fees to the APS will permit in person workshop participants to attend the annual Friday night reception and to reserve hotel rooms at the conference hotel at an attractive conference rate.
