Jenann Ismael on AI and Agency

This is the third of several short interviews on AI and agency. In the interest of our guests’ and audience’s time, the interviews will be brief, but each interview is supplemented with a reading list that allows readers to explore the topic in greater depth.

We are fortunate to have Professor Jenann Ismael as our guest in this episode. Prof. Ismael is the William H. Miller III Professor of Philosophy at Johns Hopkins University. Her work spans several areas, including the Philosophy of Physics, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Science, and the Philosophy of Mind. And she is also renowned for her contributions to understanding the relationship between physical laws and freedom of will. In her work, How Physics Makes Us Free, she addresses the longstanding debate on free will and its compatibility with physics. Her contributions continue to influence contemporary discussions on the nature of free will, determinism, and the role of science in understanding human agency. She is interviewed by Majid D. Beni.
